As we look around in today's society we notice what is acceptable, and what is not acceptable. One thing that is noticed is that there are two sides of a coin so to speak. One standard for men and another standard for women, a double standard. A double standard when it comes to males and females, boys and girls. A double standard when it comes to law enforcement and the common people. A double standard when it comes to celebrities and the general public. A double standard when it comes to those in authority and those not in authority. Why are there such double standards? Who established these double standards? Let's take a look at a few.
(1) DATING~
A man can date as many women as he likes and no one will think ill of it. Especially if they are of the male persuasion. In actuality, if a man does not lose his virginity at a certain age he is looked down upon. It seems that the more women he has conquered, the more he looks like a stud.
A woman on the other hand can date, yes, BUT if she dates too many men, she may be considered a hussy, a slut or a whore. If she loses her virginity at an early age she will be labelled, and not in a good way.
(2) HAIR~ There are a lot of men falling into a new trend. What is this trend? The trend of growing their hair long. Some men grow their hair out to shoulder length and beyond. Some men have dreadlocks, some have hair weaves, some have braids and some have twist. In today's society it may be considered by some or even most women
SEXY for a man to have long flowing hair.
Women today have decided to do their own thing when it comes to hair. Some women have taken a route to shaving their hair completely off. No, some do not do it because of health or medical reasons but they choose to do it as a style. Some styles are totally clean shaven, some are very low cut and very small bushes. How has society commented on this? Strong opinions do vary BUT for the most part some have expressed that these styles make the women look MASCULINE, that these styles make women look like a men.
(3) WEIGHT~ Now, everybody may gain weight from time to time. Some may gain a little and some may gain a lot.
When men gain weight it may not be noticed or even mentioned. If he puts on a few pounds it may be no BIG DEAL. If his stomach sticks out like he is eight months pregnant it seems to add to his sex appeal.
When women gain weight there seems to be a problem. Many make their comments on how they need to lose weight and how they need to go to the gym. If a woman has a big tummy that looks like she is nine months pregnant she gets horrifying looks. It is often mentioned that she has "LET HERSELF GO"! In some cases she is considered disgusting.
