Do Natural Sleeping Remedies Work?
Everyone may have a sleepless night now and then. It may NOT be a big deal to many, because the following night most people may fall right to sleep, with no problem. For others it may be a VERY serious problem because it happens night, after night, after night. Causing a lot of stress to the mind, and to the body. People have a tendency to resort to using illegal drugs, wine, beer or even alcohol to help them to sleep. These measures may be used out of desperation. Others may go to the doctor to get a prescription drug that is strong enough to knock them TOTALLY out. Others may try over the counter medications that have some restrictions and warnings with many side effects. Other may even try special concoctions that relaxes the body and enhances sleep. What about you? What do you use when you can not sleep? Have you ever thought about using NATURAL REMEDIES? There are plenty of natural remedies that can be used, that are practical, healthy, affordable and even FREE!
(1) First on the list is CHAMOMILE TEA~ Chamomile is an herb that may reduce muscle tension. It is said to soothe digestion and reduce anxiety which may induce sleep. Fix a cup of hot, delicious chamomile tea right after dinner. Make sure you don't drink it too close to your bedtime because you may have to get up and go to the bathroom.
(2) MUSIC THERAPY~ Slow, wonderful, soft, gentle and soothing music can do wonders for the mind and a body, it can put it at ease. Music therapy can improve a person's sleep quality. It can decrease nightly wake-ups and even lengthen a person's sleep time and increase satisfaction with sleep. (3) MELATONIN~ Melatonin has been recommended for various sleeping problems. It is a naturally-occurring hormone that controls the sleep-wake cycle in the brain. Melatonin is produced from serotonin when exposure to light decreases at night. Melatonin supplements may improve a persons' sleep quality and morning alertness with people who have insomnia. You can find MELATONIN in the form of pills, liquid, and capsules.
(4) MEDITATION~ Regularly meditating may help to promote sleep. A slow breathing exercise may reduce the stress hormone levels. Meditation is an old age technique that involves directing one's attention to an object of focus, such as breathing or a sound, or word to increase awareness. It relaxes the body, and calms the mind. (5) VISUALIZATION~ This involves actively imagining a relaxing scene. It can be done any place and at any time. It can be done in the bed about twenty minutes before falling to sleep. It involves all of the senses. One can imagine one's self on a tropical beach in JAMAICA, thinking about the warm summer waters, and the cool breeze flowing against one's skin!
(6) FOOD AND DIET~ If a person has a sleeping problem, it would be wise to limit the intake of CAFFEINE, ALCOHOL and NICOTINE.
It is said that caffeine, alcohol, and nicotine have a pronounced effect on sleep, causing sleeping problems and even restlessness. Tea and soft drinks, and chocolate should be limited also because of the caffeine. A lot of people may not know that cough, and cold medicines and other over the counter medications are full of caffeine as well.
