What should YOU know about BREAST CANCER? Part 1
OCTOBER is a VERY important month. Why? It is a very important month because it is a month of AWARENESS. A month of awareness about CANCER , especially BREAST CANCER. Breast cancer has affected so many lives, causing stress, debilitation and even causing DEATH. BREAST CANCER affects mainly women BUT did you know that it affects children and men too? There are so many questions that are left unanswered when it comes to breast cancer. There are so many questions about this disease. What is breast cancer? What are the warning signs of breast cancer? What causes breast cancer? The questions can go on for ever, and ever. What should WE know, what should YOU know about BREAST Cancer?
WHAT EXACTLY IS BREAST CANCER? According to THE AMERICAN CANCER INSTITUTE, breast cancer is a malignant or very infectious tumor that starts in the cells in the breast."A malignant tumor is a group of cancer cells that can grow into (invade) surrounding tissues or spread (metastasize) to distant areas of the body. The disease occurs almost entirely in women, but men can get it, too".
WHAT ARE THE WARNING SIGNS OF BREAST CANCER ? There are many warning signs BUT because everyone's body is different, all of the signs may not be apparent. (1) a lump or hard knot or a thickening inside the breast or in the under arm area. (2) Swelling, warmth, redness, and/or darkening of the breast. (3) Changes in the size or the shape of the breast. (4) Dimpling or puckering of the skin. (5) Itchy scaly sore or rash on the nipple (6) Pulling in or on the nipple or on the other part of the breast (7) Nipple discharge that start suddenly (8) New pain in the breast area that does not go away.
Happily to say, in most cases these changes may not be cancer. For example if you have a pain in your breast it can be a benign or non cancerous condition. It can be also the result of hormonal changes. The only way to know for sure is too see your doctor and have test taken. If a person has breast cancer it is best that it is caught in the early stages when there is a higher survival rate. WHAT CAUSES BREAST CANCER? It is normal when a person gets BREAST CANCER for them to ask, why did this happen? Where did this come from? Reality stands that it is not known as of yet where this deadly disease comes from. There are certain factors that come into play BUT NO ONE really has the answer to this age old question.
